14.a number of，the number of a number of“一些；若干”，和复数名词或代词连用，后面的动词也用复数形式。 eg：

the number of".……的数量(数目)”.介词of同其后的名词构成介词短语，作
定语修饰the humber，当它作主语时，谓语动词用单数。 eg：
the number of the students standing there is about twenty.站在那边的学生数目大约是二十。

the international situation国际形势
state“状态；状况”，常与不定冠词连用，只有单数形式.与介词in搭配使用。 eg：
she is in a good state of mind.她心情不错。
condition“状况；环境”，指周围环境时常用复数形式，与介词in或under搭配使用。 eg：living conditions居住状况/环境
he is in no condition to travei.他的健康状况不宜旅行。
